5 Tips: Empty Houses In Your Birth Chart

If you’ve looked at your birth chart and wondered what do empty houses in my birth chart mean?, here are 5 important things you need to know.

1. Transits of Planets + Luminaries Activates Empty Houses

First off, if a planet is transiting through the zodiac sign of your empty house it will activate and amplify the energies of that part of your life that the house rules. This is why knowing your rising sign, or ascendant sign, using the time of your birth, allows you to see which houses and areas of life are likely to be most active for you in your lifetime. Your chart begins with your rising sign, and all of the planets are placed in the corresponding order of houses based on the zodiac cycle.

2. The more planets/luminaries in a house, the more you understand that zodiac sign’s language, and vice versa.

Speaking of amplification, the second is that planets and placements amplify energy. So if a certain house in your birth chart has a lot more planets, that means it’s amplifying that energy, making it very noticeable and likely easy for you to express it. If a certain house does not have any placements in it, that means the energy is less noticeable in that part of your life. Think of it like every zodiac sign is a language. If I have four planets in my Virgo house, that means my Virgo language is very easy for me to express. If I have zero planets in my Taurus house, I may not really understand that language and may need help in understanding and balancing it.

3. People who embody the zodiac sign of your empty house will help you develop it.

This brings me to #3, find the people who have a higher vibration of the zodiac sign of the sign of your empty house. They will naturally show you how to express and understand that energy. I have learned so much from the people that embody the energy of my empty houses. However, I have also met people who embody the lower forms of those energetic expressions of those houses, which led to a lot of hard lessons in my life. So a lot of lessons do come from your empty houses because they are the source of your growth. 

By not pushing yourself to expand and learn about the energy of your empty houses, you may actually subconsciously seek to gain some power from external sources instead. This is where we may see things like codependency come up, where we see people hanging on and clinging to other people’s energy because they fully haven’t developed the energy of the zodiac sign in themselves. When we balance all 12 energies inside of us, we become the most radiant energetically aligned person we are supposed to be.

4. Empty houses may be activated by asteroid placements, or even progressed signs.

#4 is advanced astrology. The natal birthchart typically does not show your asteroid placements. This goes into the divine feminine aspects of yourself. Every year on your birthday you get a new progressed chart to show you the signs of your “evolving identity”. So you may have a different sun sign, a different moon sign, a different rising sign, etc., in your evolved progressed chart. 

A lot of astrologers don’t discuss this because if you don’t understand the base layers of your natal birth chart, it may be difficult to understand how it all connects. The progressed placements are very applicable to your current energetic being though, so it is likely that even though the natal birth chart may have empty houses, your progressed chart may have some placements in those same “empty” houses, amplifying the activating the energy there.

5. The journey of life helps you learn all 12 zodiac signs and all 12 houses.

Lastly, I want to remind you that you are all 12 zodiac signs and the purpose of life is to master all zodiac sign expressions. That’s why the chart is a circle and why all of them are there. You may have the expression of some of them be more obvious than some others, but over the lifetime you are supposed to become very competent in all the 12 energetic ways of expression. This is not something that one person has and another person doesn’t, so if you are saying you don’t like a certain zodiac sign, it’s likely that you haven’t developed that zodiac sign’s energy within yourself as much. There could be some subconscious shadow behaviors, or wounding, maybe something went on there where you were not able to connect with it fully. We are all one and the 12 zodiac signs are supposed to work together and that’s why we go through the cycle every year to learn about each energy more deeply.
